Rest

You never realize how important it is to rest until you don't do it. You know the whole Sabbath thing....resting on the 7th day? Well, I don't think it has to be EVERY Sunday, but you might be surprised at how much work you really can get done in the six days you're working if you DO rest on the 7th! Try it out, if you don't believe me. Do all of the work you planed on doing in 6 days, and don't do any work at all on the 7th. Spend time with friends, catch up on reading, email people, take a nap, sleep in....do whatever it is you do when you rest/relax.

That is what's going on with me today. I'm resting. I've decided that working the part time job isn't worth the added stress. I broke down Monday night, and Jason and I decided that we don't need that extra little bit of money because it's adding too much stress. So, after August 7th I'll just work the major weekends and only when they need someone to work (and don't have any other people). I really like Domino's, the job and the people are great.

Anyway, that's all in my life right now....have a lovely day!!

I agree. Keeping the Sabbath is fundamental to the living the life that God has planned for us.
It is often the Sabbath that He uses to refresh our souls.

Do you really think it "doesn't have to be EVERY Sunday"? Since when do we decide to interpret the method which God has instituted to take care of us? I do believe in not being legalistic about it, but in keeping the spirit of the law, which is REST. But God's plan for us is a weekly rest. Now-a-days, we abuse this. It's easy to become so busy and committed and rationalize our way out of this time of rest that GOd has ordained for our bodies and our souls. But I truly believe that if we trust God and honor this day that he has commanded us to set aside, He will bless us and like you said, we will see awesome results, even financially!
If you absolutely have to work sundays, is there another regular day you can rest on? Not only physically, but mentally and spiritually? Dedicated to special focus on the Lord?

I have been meditating alot on the principle of the Sabbath lately, as I have been playing the piano for a 7th Day Adventist Church over the past year (they believe in the literal commandment of the Sabbath on the 7th Day). (Which, by the way, Sunday is technically the 1st day of the week, not the 7th.)
They are so legalistic at times I just want to run away during the service, but the good it has done for me has shocked me into realizing the seriousness of EVERY part of God's Word. And many times we who are of the Wesleyan persuasion take the freedom we have in Christ for granted, I believe. We are to take every part of God's Word seriously. Never did Jesus obliterate the Sabbath. Rather, He just emphasized the Spirit of the sabbath. "Man was not made for the Sabbath, rather the Sabbath was made for man." God had a plan when he instituted the Sabbath.
I am not accusing you of anything...your post just opened an opportunity for me to jot some things down I've been thinking lately. I appreciate the Spirit of what you are saying. But I would also challenge you to think more about the weekly thing. IF when we start saying, "WEll, I don't really think it HAS to be every week." Then eventually, are we keeping the sabbath? Do we just keep it when we feel tired? OR do we fall in line with what I believe was God's intentions as a weekly remedy to PREVENTING burnout.
Food for thought.
Love you, Judy!

I hear you Ang, and I actually do agree...
I meant that Sunday is not necessarily designated as the Sabbath day, but rather to choose which ever day is most convenient for you (your own lifestyle). Pastors will never be able to take Sundays as their Sabbath because that is typically their major work day.
I totally appreciate your heart Ang. And I appreciate your challenge. I will think more on what you said, however I believe we're already on the same page...merely saying it in different words.
Anyway, thanks!!
